The Bonobo by Raes

The Bonobo by Raes is a collection of forty-one apartments and thirty-three hotel rooms designed to capture the relaxed luxury and understated beauty of Byron Bay. Conceived as a contemporary coastal retreat, the interiors were designed to feel less like traditional hotel accommodation and more like a considered residential experience - warm, welcoming and deeply connected to place.

Birdy designed the interiors of the apartments and hotel rooms, developing the material palette, furniture selections, bespoke furniture, custom textiles and styling. Working closely with Jardan, she created a collection of bespoke furniture and custom rugs designed exclusively for The Bonobo. In collaboration with Studio Manifold, they established a cohesive design language that extends from the guest rooms into the lobby, lobby lounge, pool and outdoor spaces. Working with MCM House, they developed an exclusive collection of outdoor furniture and upholstery that complements the interiors, creating a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor environments.

Inspired by the colours and textures of Byron Bay, the project celebrates natural materials, Australian craftsmanship and timeless design, resulting in a hospitality experience that feels sophisticated yet relaxed - a true home away from home.
